the light-medium blue color of old porch ceilings (before air-conditioning) said to keep flies from landing and depositing their tell-tale spots. it was cool and peaceful on the porch, swinging, gazing up at the freshly coated fly-speck blue ceiling. i fuzzed my eyes and imagined clouds floating by.
