the eat shakes is a common result of over-eating, particularly during compet-tive eating contests. the symptoms of the “eat shakes” are the following:

– uncontrollable bodily shaking, particularly in the extremities.
– profuse (usually meat scented) sweating.
– pruning of the finger tips as a result of over exposure to grease.

the first known use of the term occurred at eagle’s deli in brighton, ma. two sets of siblings were competing with each other in the task of finishing a two pound cheeseburger with two pounds of fries, each. one of the people involved, mary, was visibly shaking. as a response to the shaking, scott (an observer) said, “wow, you’ve got the eat shakes.”
