Egomancing
a term used to describe the act of giving a person you believe to have a romantic interest in you just enough encouragement to keep them expressing interest. the egomancer has no real romantic interest in this person. this is usually undertaken unconsciously to protect or inflate the egomancer’s ego.
think back. wasn’t there that one person who kept confusing you with mixed messages at the friend/relationship barrier.
that one person might have been confused about their feelings or you were some kind of backup or that person was just egomancing.
