question from mom: what was the problem with the roku?
engineersplain: i needed to edit iptables to forward external tdp ports 80 and 443 to the roku. i also needed to forward udp port 53. once that was done i restarted iptables and ip traffic was able ingress/egress from the roku to the internet and vice versa.
