face painting (also referred to as ‘myspin’) is internet slang for the practice of sprinkling a social networking profile with embellishments, fantasy, and satire, often with humorous or political intentions. face painters play with the truthiness of ident-ty by conducting a campaign of misinformation to protect their true ident-ty.
face painting is closely related to google bombing
the term was coined in 2007 in the wake of the facebook beacon backlash and the soble scandal. face painters aim to introduce a bit of noise and chaos back into the system, clearing some sp-ce for true privacy, and enabling a form of direct political action that does not fall victim to sunstein’s critique of h-m-geneous, disjoint social sub-networks on the internet.
