fanfiction.net

website that had a unique database from those who produce pieces from copyrighted properties illicit lit known in creative nonfiction circles though some from this circuit made the rounds in the small press. it’s got some strange ones you have to admit as i sneaked holden’s counterpart a creative nonfiction piece in the vein of catcher in the rye with the twilight zone influences. then a shorter science fiction yarn a cl-ssmate from glenbard east which was from the notes he sent me on the character via deviantart. fanhistory noted this one as did fanworks.org as it came from the cl-ssmate’s character as i uploaded it to the site as my then computer was going to crash.

in the 2003-2004 era of this website you saw a rivalry between the writers who appeared on fictionpress.com as some of them have accounts on both places. a few on there are usually in grade school or high school, but sometimes you see a published author, publisher, or journalist emerge on the site as the fannish regulars would try to pull the argument, “fan fiction is better than the original.” as a comment on ljdrama invoked a heated argument that had some wolf ticket taunting on one end. 2005 you seen the first ushering of writers from the website become published in the independent circles though fandom_w-nk and their cohorts single them out on livejournal.
those who emerged from the horror fandoms on this website, as the founder of the website was noted in genre fandom with the x-files as the writer introduced on quakes and storms: a natural disaster anthology also was seen in these circles in the mid-2000s. the publisher behind the namesakes and the ethereal gazette busted the queen of gargoyle fanfiction when he uncovered both her fanfiction.net account (she was getting noticed for what e. l. james later did in the 2010s. as she often sniped at creative nonfiction writers who invaded the independent press as small press named for the debut science fiction story brought creative nonfiction into the fold. she was torqued when she found out the writer who became known for sniping on slash fanfiction was the very same writer who wrote the cabbie homicide in 2002. just as she was noticed for a gargoyles fanfic called “baby makes three.”

summer of 2004 was the slash fanfiction writer’s nightmare, the fandom writer as it was introduced on the house of pain e-zine, a cult horror magazine that had frightening horror stories. quiet a few of the stories on the e-zine some teeth as each writer became publishers. some of the nightmare on elm street horror fandom was looking up some of the house of pain authors from the 2003 era as she found “the mechanics of perversion” and “baby hunter” then almost left a puddle behind the keyboard. then found some of the future chimeraworld roster on the house of pain e-zine website.
an enormous site – stigmatized by poor administration and bad decision-making on the part of rules – housing a broad (but not broad enough) range of fanfiction, ranging from the wonderful to the mediocre to the awful.

considerably less impressive now due to restrictive rules placed on the types of entries allowed in recent years.

motto: “unleash your imagination and free your soul.” no longer applicable.
i kinda used to love fanfiction.net, but ever since the owners started to discriminate against certain kinds of stories and ban them, i’ve kinda thought maybe they should just call it fanfiction.n-z-
a formerly great site, which hosted a wide amount of stories over a broad choice of categories. as of popular opinion, it is currently a sh-t pile. it has lazy administration, random deletion of awesome stories and leaves the sh-t ones behind. does not fulfil it’s motto; ‘unleash your imagination and free your soul’.
guy 1: hahaha, check this really funny story on ff.net.
guy 2: dude, it got deleted.
guy 1: you serious? ok, what about this awesome one?
guy 2: nope, sorry.
guy 1: well… what about that super dragon ball z with lotr story?
guy 2: uh, yeh…
a website; a multi-multi-fandom archive for fanfic of all fandoms, pairings, ratings*, and genres. fiction quality ranges from poor to excellent, by authors of all levels of experience and talent. fanfiction.net used to house original fiction as well, before sp-wning fictionpress, where all previously submitted original fic is now stored.

* fanfiction.net caused a controversy a while back after banning all fanfic rated above r (nc-17). a number of fans boycotted the site after losing their fiction, and several others simply began -ssigning an r rating to graphic fic.
“sure, i’m archived at fanfiction.net, under the name ‘she staggers onward, rejoicing.'”
a formerly brillant site which has now spiralled into a sad pile of cr-ppy mary-sues, pointless, restrictive rules, and endless server problems. nevertheless, it still seems to have a monopoly on about 99% of fanfic writers on the internet, though you have to trawl through a heap of sueage to get to anything decent.

fanfiction.net annoyingly bans, among other things: stories in script-form, stories in second-person (or “you-fics”), fics involving real people, and anything they deem “interactive”, up to and including responding to readers’ questions. as a member of the ppc once declared of scriptform: “if it was good enough for shakespeare, it’s good enough for fanfiction.”

it also doesn’t support many punctuation marks, such as *, <, >, , , and /, despite several of these being vital to certain fandoms, for example as the <> “thought-speech” speech marks in the animorphs fandom. it also removes any links or email addresses in stories.

the site furthers its bad reputation by randomly banning a lot of really good stories for absolutely no reason. its reporting system also doesn’t seem to be regulated, as it can and has happened that one person has reported another’s story because of a grudge rather than the story having anything wrong with it, resulting in the story’s unfair deletion.

fanfiction.net is popularly known as “the pit of voles”, or just the pit. have you ever heard the saying that a thousand monkeys working at a thousand typewriters would eventually produce the works of shakespeare? well, if that’s true, then common wisdom is that whatever’s writing the stories on ff.net can’t be monkeys.
“i went on fanfiction.net and they’d deleted ‘harry potter and the battle of wills’!”
“no! but it’s at a really good bit!”
a site hosting fanfiction where 99% of them sucks like sh-t and 0.75% are so-so and the other 0.25% are actually good.also suffers from the mystery of fanfictions getting deleted suddenly without reason.
i m bored so i am going to fanfiction.net and spend hours reading lame stories is that okay?
a website that aspiring writers can use to express their ideas of what can happen in tv shows, movies, books, plays, etc. unfortunately, about 95% of the website’s content is teenage hormone driven p-rn.

don’t me wrong, i read/write for fanfiction.net quite often, and if you’re patient, you will find something good and worth reading. you’ll just have to dig through a lot of garbage first.

fanfiction.net also has a sibling website, fiction press, which is for original content.

often abbreviated as ‘fanfiction’ or ‘fanfic’
“you should check out my new story on fanfiction.net!”

“check this out! after an hour of browsing on fanfic, i found a story that’s actually really good!”
one of the best website to read fanfiction. it used to be much, much better than it is today, but there was a number of unexplained or stupid decisions.

decisions such as reinventing the search system when it was already good. now you’ll be lucky if any search you make with more than one word come up with accurate results. other decisions include taking away nc-17 rating, banning stories about real life people, and banning stories that doesn’t fit a certain format. what’s the point of “unleashing your imagination” if your imagination is restricted?

also, there are a number of website problems there. the usual and least believable explanation is something along the lines of “server upgrade”.

despite this, people don’t have much choice because ff.net still has the most stories and the best interface.
guy browsing ff.net: hmm, what? no more nc-17 stories because kids are reading it? jesus christ! so r-rated stories are better?!
