farinelli
farinelli, whose real name was carlo broschi. he was born in naples, italy january 24, 1705 and died july 15, 1782 in bologna. farinelli was the most famous musical figure in his century, (a baroque “rock star”) and is arguably one of the greatest singers ever. his reputation and fame has lasted despite the disappearance of castrato singers and the unique musical style dedicated to them known as “opera seria.”
a 1994 film of the same name, about the singer’s life. stefano dionisi played farinelli.
then there was the singer farinelli, whose heart and brain were real though his voice was artificial.
