frankenhorn
an unlacquered hybrid horn, usually a kruspe-wrap horn. one part of the horn must be nickel silver, and the other part must be yellow br-ss (an example is a patterson-modified nickel silver 8d with a conn yellow br-ss first branch). a frankenhorn must be able to play stupidly loud in an orchestral setting and it should be very easy to play very loud.
when our -sst. princ-p-l horn played the frankenhorn, he played so loud in the first movement of tchaikovsky 5 it caused the fourth horn to get really mad at him.
