decorated manhole covers that depict images about a country’s history, cultures, and customs—“manholers” (manhole cover fans) from far and wide converge to photograph these beautiful artworks.
j-pan’s holey art project was launched to improve the image of its sewage network—there are currently about 12,000 of these elaborately designed manhole covers countrywide, with 10 to 15 of these costly and time-consuming designs being manmade every day.
