he who could be called “ja boi” if you and he were on more familiar terms and/or if he had done a particularly useful solid for you when you needed it most;
intended for casual use rather than when you are trying to be fancy;
non-threatening, friendly signifier of mutual esteem that communicates someone is a particularly good homie, without sacrificing the chill factor communicated by dude.
