hypothesis

a prediction or educated-guess based on current evidence that is yet to be tested.
i hypothesize that my pants will decend.

it seems that my hypothesis was correct. now, to get funky.
a guess made by someone with a phd.

in common usage, the words hypothesis, model, theory, and law have different interpretations and are at times used without precision, but in science they have very exact meanings. a hypothesis is a limited statement regarding the cause and effect in a specific situation, which can be tested by experimentation and observation or by statistical -n-lysis of the probabilities from the data obtained.
it’s not just a guess, it’s a hypothesis.
an hypothesis is “a proposition, or set of propositions, set forth as an explanation for the occurrence of some specified group of phenomena, either -sserted merely as a provisional conjecture to guide investigation (working hypothesis) or accepted as highly probable in the light of established facts.” which means that not all hypothesizes are the same. i can hypothesize that the wind might blow a kite i’m holding to the right if the wind starts blowing in that direction but that would be a guess. i can also hypothesize that life arose from nothing but that would be completely speculative and guess-work.
an hypothesis in science can sometimes have some established facts but can otherwise be entirely guess-work like the abiogenesis hypothesis which is fueled entirely by the blind faith of atheists.
