an ildriss is a type of elemental grue in the game dungeons and dragons, first appearing in advanced d&d in the monster manual ii in 1983. in particular, ildriss is the name given to the air elemental grues.
dungeon master: “as you walk down the corridor, you begin to get the feeling that something is following you…”
player: “i turn around, holding my sword at the ready. what do i see?”
dungeon master: *rolls a die* “you almost don’t see it at first, as it is nearly transparent, but down the corridor near the door you came through is an ildriss. roll for initiative.”
