to state the obvious.
tim is having lunch when tony walks in. tony says, ‘oh, you’re having lunch.’
tim replies, ‘that’s a ioannarism if ever i heard one.’
in some cultures, it is common to state the obvious- ioannarism- however, it is still annoying in british culture.
