it’s better to be a mary than a martha.
a saying that encourages us to receive from god rather than trying to please him, unlike in human relationships when it is more blessed to give than to receive—martha is ever-anxious to please others, while mary has wisely chosen to rely on god instead.
god loves it when we draw our strength, wisdom, and favor from him, instead of us always worrying about whether our good deeds would please him or not—the bible tells us that it’s better to be a mary than a martha.
