a person dressed as a clown with murderous or harmful intent. possible origins include serial killer john wayne gacy, who became known as the “killer clown” when he created a series of oil paintings on death row on the subject of clowns; or an incident in boston in 1981 in which dozens of reports surfaced of children being abducted by people dressed like clowns.
