a term used to describe someone who is not gifted to be a college math prof, but his job is math-related—he could be a math lecturer, consultant, school teacher, textbook author, or editor.
math educators work in the school of education; mathematicians work in the department of mathematics—at best, math educators are second- or third-rate mathematicians.
