the original super robot anime and thus founder of the genre. made by mangaka go nagai in 1972. it features the young man kouji kabuto, piloting the robot made by his grandfather named mazinger z. with it, he can become either a god or a devil.
also the origin of the “calling your attacks” anime trope. the first robot to feature a human pilot.
