Meerkat Day
a code word for taking a sickie from work when you’re not really sick and spending the day chillaxing, shopping or hanging out with your co-conspirators. this code word is useful in work emails because using the phrase “i’m chucking a sickie” doesn’t go down well with your managers should they read your work email.
the word originated in melbourne, when two bored friends orchestrated taking a sickie on the same day and went to the zoo to see the meerkats. knowing that their managers have the right to read their work emails, they had to devise a code word.
hey mate, wednesdays sux, let’s take a meerkat day tomorrow, ride the ferris wheel and go to the rooftop bar on swanson street.
