meeting muse

in a group meeting, the attendee with whom the meeting leader establishes and maintains eye contact. the speaker presents all information directly to that attendee. causes include:

– attendee is the only person in the room offering eye contact to presenter
– performance anxiety
– a desire for a personal connection with an otherwise disinterested room.

the meeting muse at first will experience feelings of grandeur, as if he/she is the most important person in the room. this quickly subsides to a feeling of awkward imprisonment.
travis: “gawd i hate going to slate’s meetings.”

troy: “dude – were you the meeting muse again?”

travis: “yes, dammit. i couldn’t check email, do facebook, even look down at my phone. i’m so behind now.”
