when you ask a dumb question in cl-ss but the teacher misunderstands you to be asking something a lot more intelligent than what you were really asking. you were actually asking something that betrayed your ignorance of the subject matter, but the teacher reads into your question a nuanced understanding that you simply did not have.
you were misunderstood, but you’re a misunderstud, because the teacher thinks you’re so smart.

student: molecules?
teacher: that’s an amazing answer. it brings out the paradox that the material and the immaterial coexist simultaneously in our universe.
