there is an indonesian term – “norak” – that comes to mind when looking at the choice of colours. it is the equivalent of “kitsch”; i’m not saying that it is ‘of bad taste’, but there is the sense of “norak-ness”, a certain playfulness – if that makes sense. ‘cheap and chic’. really cl-ssy, kl-ssy with a k!
