Obamneycare
n. obamneycare, a merge of obamacare and romneycare, is the bipartisan — and, thus, more neutral — term for the affordable care act (aca), proposed by president barack obama and signed into law on march 23, 2010, during president obama’s administration.
“obamneycare” was coined in 2011 by former governor tim pawlenty (r) to disparage primary presidential rival mitt romney, former republican governor of m-ssachusetts and creator of romneycare, the template for the aca. obamneycare remained in use during the republican primary season, but in summer 2012, after romney wrapped up the republican presidential nomination, the term was censored among republicans and fell out of use by the media.
in october 2013, after the roll out of the aca, “obamneycare” has gained traction as a term that better reflects the bipartisan reality surrounding the aca.
