OICW

an acronym for the xm29 objective individual combat weapon, a combination -ssault rifle-grenade launcher which was being developed for use by hckler & koch and alliant arms, for the united states military. it is comprised of two components; the upper component being the grenade launcher, which fires 20mm airbursting renades, and is magazine-fed, rather than single shot, as is the case with the m203 grenade launcher. the lower component is a variation of heckler & koch’s g36 -ssault rifle, currently being issued to the german bundeswehr. the -ssault rifle part of the weapon fires nato-standard 5.56x45mm(.223 remington) kinetic energy rounds from a 30-round magazine. the rifle also features a state-of-the-art tactical scope with nightvision, infrared, and zoom capabilities. the xm29 is a mix of both bullpup and standard rifle designs.

the xm29 oicw was being developed from the early 90’s until recently by heckler & koch, and alliant arms. after spending many years and hundreds of thousands of dollars in development, the oicw project was scr-pped, after it failed to overcome a few design flaws in its final test stages. it is believed that the oicw -might- still see service with the u.s. armed forces, but if so… it will be at a much later date than was originally predicted.

while the oicw was scr-pped, development of its 5.56mm -ssault rifle component was continued in the form of the xm8 compact -ssault rifle, which will most likely begin to replace the aging ar15/m16/m4 family of -ssault rifles, at least in the front lines of the u.s. armed forces. the u.s. special forces, however, are having a different weapon developed for tthem in the fn scar.
it will be a shame if a brilliant design such as the oicw never sees the light of day.

objective individual combat weapon, the other dude got the order wrong. essentially a combination weapon that uses a us variation of the german army’s g36 series rifles, the us one being known as the xm8, and a 20mm grenade launcher. chambering for the rifle portion is 5.56mm x 45mm nato standard ball, or full metal jacketed,round, while the grenade launcher’s chambering is 20 x 85mm. grenade is designed to burst in the air, and therefore has the ability to engage targets behind cover, or a target inside a building hiding alongside a window. this has proved troublesome to do with the m203 grenade launcher, and allthough the new grenade launcher is of smaller diameter it has much greater range and accuracy, and is more effective. the rifle uses a detachable box magazine containing 30 rounds of ammunition, while the grenade launcher has a detachable box magazine containing 6 rounds, which allows for much higher rate of fire than m203. the xm8 is also detachable from the system as a whole and is also being developed as a separate -ssault rifle which, it is believed, will replace both the m16 and m4 -ssualt rifle and carbine in the future iocwalso world.guns.ru website is very informative note that it is.ru not .com

a “rifle” more like a mini battle station that sports an -ssault rifle chambered in 5.56 x 45 nato and a 40mm grenade launcher that fires a straight going grenade as opposed to a conventional grenade launcher. it is basically a small rocket launcher mounted on to your rifle that is programmed to explode where you want it to explode. the scope contains computers that help indicate distance, alt-tude, longitude, etc. it also sports a night vision making it an effective tool for night combat.

whereas the only disadvantage of the oicw is its cubersome size, limiting the soldiers mobility.

but the future will probably solve this problem.
the oicw if successfully put into combat will be the revolutionary tool in the battlefield.
now tanks and aircraft are potentially threatened by one man.
