african-like nonsense word used in a gary larsson cartoon.
in the cartoon, tarzan is sitting up in bed with an open diary on his lap and pencil in hand, scratching his head in deep thought. the caption reads: “tarzan contemplates yet another diary entry.” the pages of the open diary reveal, on every page, the single thought: “oongawa”.
dave chappelle used this phrase during the racial draft after a group of people bood him, possibly meaning shut up in some sort of african language.
