a measure of distance anywhere between 5 steps and 5 miles. given by rangers at philmont who have no idea what the actual distance to where you are going, so they completely bullsh-t their answer when you ask them how far it is to anywhere.

ranger: it’s exactly 1.75 miles.
scout: since that is 1.75 philmont miles, its probably about 4 real miles.
