pull a salt or pulling a salt, or doing a salt is when you have a team mate in left 4 dead that accidentally throws a molotov (a fire in a bottle) way too close to the whole team, managing to down them or kill them all.
teammate 1: -throws a molotov-
teammate 2: “dude, did you pull a salt on us?”
teammate 1: “i’m sorry, i thought the fire wouldn’t hit us. it didn’t seem like i threw it that close!”
