also spelled “safegay,” this refers to implied h-m-s-xuality in a fictional work done subtly enough to be marketed towards a mostly straight audience or to children. this usually occurs when the creators don’t want to cause controversy. or the higher-ups wanted them to tone it down if the plan was originally to show it more obviously.
usually, it’s hard to catch the first time around, but becomes more obvious each time you consume that media.
