the act of standing by and doing nothing to effect or change events but attracting attention to the event itself none the less.
i was getting the cr-p kicked out of me and my buddy mike was just standing around selling popcorn.
among salespeople, “selling popcorn” means to sell consumables with a low margin- otherwise known as worthless cr-p that you can’t make a profit off of.
joe always wins the most monthly sales but he’s selling popcorn: matches, paper towels, potholders, work gloves…
i’d hate to take home his commissions.
