stiff-necked
the term stiff-necked is an old english word that dates back to biblical terms and is heavily used in the old testament of the bible. god uses the word to describe how generation after generation of descendants chose to do what was wrong knowing what they were doing was wrong in the eyes of god. for example, worshipping other gods, male shrine prost-tutes in the temple of god, murdering their children and sacrificing them in the fire, building asherah poles and worshipping them, worshipping baal and golden calves, collecting taxes in the temple of the lord, stealing, coveting, prost-tution, divination, sorcery, building high places that are not the temple of the lord, adultery, innocent bloodshed, incest, burning incense on the high places, and breaking any of the ten commandments god gave to moses to tell the his people. such behavior dates back all the way to the fall of man. the term does not simply mean stubborn. it means wicked, detestable, and unfaithful to god.
