Tamil Tigers

a terrorist organization in sri lanka that began in 1970 as a student protest over the limited university access for tamil students.
the tamil tigers sought to establish an independent tamil state called eelam; they relied on guerrilla strategy including terrorist tactics that targeted key government and military personnel; the tamil tigers also perfected suicide bombing as a weapon of war.
the tamil tigers of sri lanka are undoubtedly one of the most organized, effective and brutal terrorist groups in the world. they invented the suicide vest and, according to the fbi, are the only terrorist group to have -ss-ssinated two world leaders. the rebels, based in northern and eastern sri lanka, have been waging a violent offensive against the central government on and off for more than 20 years. federal forces recently announced they had captured the tigers’ capital, kilinochchi, but it’s a safe bet that, regardless of territory lost or possibly dwindling ranks, the guerillas will not give up their fight willingly.
the tamil tigers, which include 5,000 to 10,000 guerillas, are fighting to secede from the the island country of sri lanka. they originally immigrated to sri lanka from southern india and make up 10 to 15% of the population, compared to the majority sinhalese, who const-tute about 75%. in 1972, the sinhalese-controlled sri lankan government declared sinhala and buddhism the official language and religion. the tamils, who practice hinduism and have their own language, took this action as an affront, and vellupillai prabhakaran founded the tigers soon after. the group is formally known as the liberation tigers of tamil eelam (ltte).
the tamil tigers aka the ltte are a group of tamils fighting for tamil eelam. they were set up to fight against the discriminatory sinhalese government’s attempts to treat tamils living in sri lanka as second cl-ss citizens.

however, in their attempts to do this they ended up stooping down to immoral acts – although they did not commit as many attrocities against civilians as the sinhalese government did.

whilst they are a terrorist organisation, mostly interested in their own agenda, they are less responsible for the conflict in sri lanka than the government. now that they have been pretty much defeated, the sinhalese government will have a free reign and if something is not done there is a danger that there will be a genocide. tamil civilians in sri lanka must be helped!
the tamil tigers may be bad but they haven’t murdered as many innocent people as the sinhalese government.
