the rev (short for the reverend tholomew plague) was born as james “jimmy” sullivan on february 10, 1981. the rev and a7x lead singer m. shadows attended a catholic school. he was kicked out in 3rd grade. he also has a side project with a7x guitarist, synyster gates, called pinkly smooth in which he does lead vocals.

james ‘the rev’ sullivan was the drummer for avenged sevenfold until his tragic death on december 28, 2009. the rev wrote the lyrics to most of their songs and was one of the most kick–ss drummers to ever walk the face of the earth. he was a fan of mike portnoy from dream theater, who is now helping a7x to get back on their feet. 3 days before his death, he came to the band after finishing the lyrics to ‘fiction’ and said, “that’s it. that’s the final song on the alb-m.” their new alb-m ‘nightmare’ has many references to jimmy, like the lines;
‘never in question, lethal injection’
‘details blurry, lost him too early’
‘i see, you’re a king who’s been dethroned’
‘cast out, in a world you’ve never known’
