the world’s #1 dj (at the time of writing). although not my personal favourite dj, this is probably a fair description.

technically, tiesto definitely is one of the best djs in the world. his mixing is flawless, interesting, and unique. he plays tracks of various electronic genres, usually trance, but most importantly he plays to the crowd, and his sets seem to vary from country to country. basically, if you want to hear it, tiesto usually plays it.

his productions are variable. in the early years of trance, tiesto produced with many other artists, in high-quality projects such as kamaya painters, major league, and gouryella. nowadays, tiesto just produces tracks that fit well into his mixing style, such as most of the stuff on ‘just be’, his most recent alb-m.

tiesto is an amazing remixer, with prime examples being his remixes of ‘paul oakenfold – southern sun’ and ‘delerium – silence’, which have both become absolute cl-ssics of the genre. he seems to be open-minded, and experiments with remixes, which is an att-tude particularly obvious in his ‘radiohead – street spirit’ and ‘dave matthews band – the sp-ce between’ remixes.

as is expected of someone so high up in his field, many people insist on putting tiesto down; and their motive is usually jealousy. tiesto’s mixes and productions are not for everyone, but it is easy to see why he is respected.

the definition of ambiguity in trance and electronic music. he has been chosen “world’s #1 dj” two years in a row, and is the only dj to ever give a solo stadium concert, which he did in may of 2003. he has done countless remixes and many compliation cds (the best of which are his magik and in search of sunrise cds), as well as an artist alb-m “in my memory”.

due to his m-ssive popularity he is often used by newcomers to electronic dance music as a gateway to trance and edm in general; also due to his m-ssive popularity he is often reviled after these same newcomers want to feel more of a part of the community and rag on tiesto. veterans of the dance music scene also criticize him for the lack of quality in his latest productions and his average mixing skills of late, and for “selling out” to the m-sses.

tiesto has shown undeniable skill in his productions such as suburban train, flight 643, and sparkles (among others), and in many of his remixes such as his “in search of sunrise” brand remix of silence by delerium. many will continue to hate tiesto (and its true that his latest work “love comes again” with bt on vocals is terrible) but many will hate tiesto for bullsh-t reasons. listen to his old productions and his new works, and decide for yourself.

tiesto is the number one trance music producer and dj in the world, as of this writting (feb 2005). he became popular because of the popularity of trance music in the mid 90s and his remix of the song “silence” by delirium. he has the ability to reach out to the m-sses even to people who are not into trance. one great example of this is when he played at the opening cermony in the 2004 athens summer olympics. no dj/producer had ever played at any opening ceremony in the olympics, yet tiesto was able to claim the crown and played in front of billions of people worldwide.

he is a very skilled producer but -sometimes- his productions are not as superb as one would expect but generally ther’re excellent. anyway, even though he is labeled as a trance music producer/dj sometimes his songs have more of a house feel to them compared to other songs produced by others. anyway, generally his songs sound deep/dark but you’ll find some happy ones too (love comes again)
