an agreement between individuals wherein the last surviving partic-p-nt inherits all of the -ssets from each member. alternatively, the -ssets may be split evenly among each of the surviving members after a certain period of time.
to decide who would inherit our father’s mansion, my brothers and i entered into a tontine. only two of us remain.
