underliving
a substandard way of living in which the individual is usually unaware or fools him or herself into believing that he or she is not living at a lower level than he or she is able to.
underliving is usually a consequence of different factors such as ignorance, mental blocks, emotional disturbances, trauma, a lack of imagination, the habit of underliving, being surrounded or having grown-up in a family and or neighborhood where most people underlive, fear of success, a poor quality environment, the lack of good examples and role models, and other reasons.
because different people have different goals and standards, what one individual may consider to be underliving, another individual may consider to be living correctly, thus well.
overall, compared to americans and people in other highly (materially) highly developed nations, approximately 90% of the people who live in developing nations are generally underliving.
the ph.d. candidate realized that by not eating and dressing as well as he could easily afford to, for different reasons he had fallen into the habit of underliving.
