a general motors engine that creates a miniature vortex in the firing cylinder to allow better a fuel/air mixture. vortec stands for “vortex technology” and it delivers more power and better fuel economy (even in chevy’s monster 8.1 liter v8), and it is reliable and easy to maintain. found in v6’s and v8’s. often misspelled as vortech.
man 1: dude, why does your truck get better gas mileage than my ford?
man 2: because i have a vortec under the hood.
