window shopping
when one visits a store or mall to admire goods rather than to purchase them. the ‘shopper’ seems to be looking so intently at the gl-ss in storefront windows that he appears to want to buy the window itself, hence ‘window shopping’.
“you seem to be really interested in that sweater. do you plan on getting it?”
“no, i’m just window shopping.”

when a man or woman in a relationship flirts with someone else, with no intention of taking it any further than that. it’s like looking at a brand new 50″ hdtv without the intention of buying it, even though it’s still nice to imagine having s-x with it.
matt loves his girlfriend, but he likes to go window shopping on occasion.
