word freak

a term used for recruiters (aka scalpers, headhunters) with a fetish for word doc-ments; insisting that they can only accept resumes done in microsoft word. otherwise known as word junkies, word addicts, and wordaholics. they are narcissistic little twits who break out in fits who break out in fits of unprofessional screaming when confronted by doc-ments sent in anything but word, whether not stated on their internet postings.

they start spouting half-truths and evasions if asked why they need microsoft word format, and the fact that they are blind to the following weaknesses of word, and tend to be liars by nature:

— relatively fragile on the internet.
— is very virus-pr-ne; infects easily on the internet.
— tends to reformat/mutilate easily in other people’s servers and computers.
— large file size for content.

the truth of the matter is that most of them convert the files they get into pdf after they remove your contact information (called “stripping”, in their trade an occupation similar to the world’s oldest profession), and really mess up what you put together. “how dare we use the sacred tools of their – ahem – profession and send them something in portable doc-ment format, or pdf.”

for others, they are individual operators too cheap to afford a full adobe suite/anything similar or are too lazy/too mentally challenged to learn how to use one. there is also the mentality that “any fool with a computer can alter a word doc-ment.”
“how dare you send this pdf”, bellowed the word freak, “i was one of the cool kids. i don’t care that i didn’t demand it. you will do as i say!!!”

“i graduated high school a long time ago.”
