short for “year 2000”. also known as the “y2k scare” or “y2k bug”.

since computers only counted the last two digits in a number (e.g. 1984 would be 84), they would reset 1/1/2000 to 1/1/1900. this lead to everyone thinking all of the computers would crash since the pc’s wouldn’t know what the date was and all the information would be lost forever.

people worried about their money, jobs, houses, loans, all that jazz. we all went berserk and thought we were gonna go back into “caveman times”. however, it didn’t happen.
three minutes before new year’s day 2000:

person a: oh f-ck, it’s y2k! hide in the closet!

three minutes later…

person a: it’s 2000, now what?
person b: i like yellow things.

biggest scam since the pyramid scheme

responsible for the biggest sales in history for generators, bottled water,
and useless computer books and software(which probably wouldn’t have worked anyway)
y2k was like the pyramid scheme in that millions of people spent a sh-tload of money for nothing, and a few people got very rich from it.
the last time people were as freaked out as they are about december 2012… just saying
“i remember walking into a bookstore on january 3, 2000 and all the y2k books were 95 % off, and laughing my -ss off”

it didn’t happen.

it was when the spam company and the people that sold generators got a big pile of revenue.
y2k….finally the generator company is getting business for once
the twentieth century after bc; the year when computers and resources were supposed to explode,implode, and crash all together.
i was so scared for y2k to come!!
