Bogdana
a female name in eastern europe.
it’s origin dates back to around 1100-1200 a.d.in early russian villages. the term “bogdana” was given to a low level prost-tute who would charge too much money for her inadequate services. this was punishable by public humiliation.
a guilty bogdana (or male bogdan) would have to stand on a stage in front of the entire town and have potatoes, cabbage, and tomatoes thrown at her. then she would be taken to the nearest bog and thrown into it.
the bogdana would be thereby exiled from the town and would have to take her promiscuity elsewhere.
the bogdana was shamed publicly and was thrown into the bog.
