Pullin’ a Scotty


if reference to montgomery scott, mr. scott, or scotty of star trek lore. when you say a task will take longer to complete than it actually will, so that when the task is completed sooner than expected you are looked favorably upon.
scotty told captain kirk that it would take 10 hours to repair the main deflector, but in reality it only took 2 hours. scotty smiled as captain kirk praised the h-ll out of him for pullin’ a scotty.

boy: did you hear that? bill just told his boss he couldn’t complete his project report in one day, but i know for a fact that those reports only take 15 minutes.

girl: bill’s been having a hard time with the new boss, so he was pullin’ a scotty to get in good with him.
