race fright

the unbearable anguish that sometimes overcomes people when they see someone of a different race.

racism and xenophobia may develop as someone tries to find a reasonable explanation for the race fright they just experienced.
me: hey bob, why are you voting for trump again? did the race fright change your mind?
bob: dude, think of the children! we can’t let those people in, they look different!

me: prisons are full of black people, there must be something wrong here.
bob: all those blacks are criminals and that’s where they belong, period!!!
me: i guess you can’t really think beyond that plat-tude when the race fright is gripping you by the throat.
