a former government -ss-ssin, lieutenant colonel albert f. simmons.

upon being murdered by chapel and priest, fellow -ss-ssins, al is sent to h-ll where he makes a pact with the devil (known as malebolgia in the comic). al agrees to give malebolgia his soul, and to lead h-ll’s army to the gates of heaven, thus kick-starting the apocalypse. upon making this deal with malebolgia, al simmons becomes a h-llsp-wn, and adopts the name “sp-wn” for short.

sp-wn possesses a variety of powers and abilities, with the help of his parasitic suit, his cape and chains.
to name a few things, sp-wn is able to shoot concentrated -necroplasm from his hands, and on occasion has shot a beam of necroplasm from his chest.
he can use his chains to grapple distant objects, to pull himself up to difficult to reach areas, and to bind his victims. they also come in handy for whipping people, and just look kind of neat.
his cape gives him the ability to “fly” although it’s more like floating, seeing as there is no wing or arm flapping involved. it can also take on the forms of many objects (such as in the game sp-wn: armageddon, where it becomes an axe named agony) be used for self protection, as a shield, or to wrap up victims in a “coc–n”. the cape also has the ability to hunt independently of sp-wn, although long separation from him would result in death of the cape.
sp-wn can also teleport, re-generate when harmed, and create illusions and hallucinations in other peoples minds. he has the ability to see what is in peoples minds, hearts and souls. he absorbs the sins of people through contact with “underworld creatures” (things such as spiders, snakes, worms, insects) and gains much of his power this way.

sp-wn is a master of guns and weapons, and knows many martial art styles, which aide him in his fighting technique.

-necroplasm is the matter from which sp-wn’s body is formed. green and glowing in appearance, it is lethal to others in more ways than one. if necroplasm should find it’s way into your body or blood system you can expect an extremely painful demise.

al simmons is the current sp-wn, but there have been past sp-wns, and there will be future sp-wns also. cogliostro was a former sp-wn, and in pre-issue 100 sp-wn, cog was al’s mentor.

“curse of the sp-wn” follows the future sp-wn, where as “medieval sp-wn” follows the story of a past sp-wn, although “sp-wn” is the original.

sp-wn is a 1997 american superhero action film which is partly based on the graphic novel by todd mcfarlane.this film is an origin story, and was directed and co-written by mark a.z. dippe.
the film stars michael jai white as al simmons, a military soldier/-ss-ssin,who is betrayed by the head of a covert government agency,jason wynn (martin sheen).after simmons dies from a gas fire caused by wynn,he arrives in h-ll,where malebolgia (frank welker),the devil, offers him a deal.if simmons becomes his eternal servant and leader of his army in armageddon, he will be able to return to earth to see his fiancee,wanda blake (theresa randle).
al simmons accepts the offer and is returned to earth as the occult anti-hero “sp-wn”.
however, when he returns, al simmons discovers that five years have p-ssed.wanda is now married to his best friend,terry (d.b. sweeney) and living the life he always wished for.he encounters a strange clown-like demon called the violator (john leguizamo), who acts like a guide for sp-wn.al simmons also seeks revenge on his former boss and killer,jason wynn, and during a reception simmons attacks wynn,kills jessica priest and escapes, using his new-found “sp-wn” powers.
it transpires that jason wynn has made a deal with the clown/violator too and plans to destroy the world with a deadly virus that will usher in armageddon and a war between heaven and h-ll.sp-wn must stop wynn and the clown/violator (the devil’s -ssistant) from destroying the world.
