Depth Hoar
depth h–r is a type of snow crystal also known as tg snow. depth h–r forms a layer in the snowpack that acts like ball bearings on the floor of a old folks home. chances are, some poor b-st-rd is gonna get taken down. depth h–r is the weak layer and fails under both natural and manmade triggers such as skiers, snowboarders, snowmobilers and explosives.
ski patrollers have been overheard referring to tg snow as depth wh-r-; nasty, sloppy, unreliable long-term and above all, costly.
the depth h–r that formed early this ski season is gonna come back and bite us in the -ss if we don’t blast the sh-t outta it.
this season’s depth h–r created some of the worst avalanche conditions we’ve seen in a long time.
